Build Your Marriage Around the Altar

Building Your Marriage…Around the Altar?

I see so many young and older marriages today who build their lives around the altar at their church. Then I see those that don’t…We need Jesus to be the center focus of our marriage and lives.

Abraham’s Altar

Abraham was an example of this. After the Lord told him to “Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee” Genesis 12:1 and proceeded to tell him how he would bless him and Sarah his wife(at the time their names were Abram and Sarai), he there builded God an altar in Genesis 12:7. And he went back to that altar Genesis 13:4.

Altar of Sacrifice

Then when Abraham went to Hebron “he built there an altar unto the Lord”. His life, marriage, and family was built around an altar, a continual altar of prayer and sacrifice. Along with many other greats of the bible. Why you may ask? Because building anything that lasts takes time, sacrifice, prayer, working together, and God!

What is the Order?

We get our priorities mixed up today thinking we need to get our lives in order, then get a career, then schedules, then maybe we can fit in church and prayer if we have time. We want to “get it together” so to speak, then we can commit to Jesus, church, tithing, prayer, and reading our bibles.

Pray First

We have it backwards… Hebrews 12:2 says, “Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith!”   He says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” in 2 Corinthians 5:7.  We have to first pray, read the word, prioritize church, then everything else around that. Which is a sacrifice.  It is a sacrifice we need to make to have the blessings on our marriage and life we desire.

Questions:

  1. What if we gave God our all in everything?

  2. How would our lives look different than it does now?

  3. How would our marriage look different if we prayed and read the word together?

  4. What if we were building our marriages around the altar every Sunday?

  5. Would we see a change?

I am asking you to invest in your marriage and thoughtfully answer these questions on a piece of paper.

Scriptures:

Tuesday:  Genesis 12:1 says, “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:” Pray today that you will obey the Lord and walk by faith!

Wednesday:  Genesis 12:7 says, “And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.” Today build an altar of prayer and sacrifice!

Thursday:  Hebrews 12:2 says, “Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith;” Trust today that God will take care of all you hold dear as you put it on the altar.

Friday:  2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” Building an altar and sacrificing what we think so God can do what we can’t even imagine! Pray God helps you to walk by faith today and put Him first at the altar of prayer.

Saturday:  Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” We can come to Him boldly in our time of need at the throne of grace!! Pray God helps you to build an altar in time of need instead first, instead of going to others for help.

The Master

When we give God our first and best and surrender at the altar, we get to see the Master at work. He can do more in an instant at the altar of God, than we can accomplish in a lifetime!

Challenge

We want to challenge you this coming Sunday to grab your spouses hand and walk to the altar and pray for your marriage and family! You can do this in your home in addition to church!!  See if God doesn’t meet you there and do great miracles!! He is Faithful!!
