Dreamy Days

Summer

In the heat of the day in the summer, I remember the saying of days gone by, "Lazy days of summer." It reminds me of a time when we weren't in such a hurry, we had time to stop and smell the roses. It's a time to enjoy the bounty of the land, and the beauty that God has created! Summer is my favorite season!! Everything is green and flowers are in full bloom! The heat sizzles on the black top and you can see a mirage of water on the road. Summer is a time we can relax with our spouse and be outside more!

Mirage

A mirage is an illusion. It's created by the sun and hot air, and it causes the light to bend upward creating a reflection of the sky and the ground. We typically see this on a very hot day!! People in the desert will see this and think they have found water but sadly there is none. Sometimes I feel our memories are like a mirage. We remember something a certain way and really it's not true, it's a mirage of our minds. I remember summer a certain way, and love to think it should always be that way! What is a way you and your spouse enjoy summer?

Busy

Busy isn't as good as productive. We can get so busy in our marriage, and day to day life that our spouse feels the effects of our busyness, and theirs. I think when you live in a state or region with 4 seasons you tend to think of summer as a time to slow down. Why? Because we tend to vacation, go on short trips, hike, bike, swim, and so many other outdoor events in summer. I know for us we can always be busy, even in the summer. We go here and there and can get overwhelmed without being getting much done.

Productive

Being productive on the other hand includes time management, and boundaries. When you are productive you can schedule time to be productive, and then also time to enjoy the summer!! I can schedule days of work where I am working all day and get a lot done by focusing, and doing well with time management. But we also plan days of relaxation!! We are flexible, as it doesn't always work out as planned with owning our own business, and my husband also has a full time career. We do work really hard to make it all work!

Dreamy Days

Summer is our time to enjoy the sun, fun, and dreaming!! My mom was a teacher and so we always had summers off! I thought this was normal. We still were in lots of activities, such as tennis, swimming, and orchestra. With all of that, we still had time to have fun!! Now life is different and we have full schedules, so we must make time to have fun and dream! Our marriage is too important to put on the back burner just to make a living. We love time with each other and we love to dream together on a summer day!

Slow Down

Weekends are our time to slow down!! We work hard all week, and Saturdays we look forward to talking, planning, and dreaming of what's next, while we make sure we are keeping current with what we are already doing. This last year and a half has been about stepping out, and also perfecting what God has laid on our heart to do. We have to slow down though and enjoy as well. We can't run all day, everyday, or we will burn out. It's a real thing that we have to assess. Slowing down is a good thing and needed in your marriage!!

Sunday

Sunday for us is the beginning of the new week! We get to go to church, worship with the body, hear a word from our Pastor, and fellowship! We love to enjoy time with the family of God! Then we come home and rest! We cook a meal, relax and prepare for the next week! Summer days are a little different though, because we try and get everything done on Friday or Saturdays a lot of times so that Sunday, we can take a drive, sit outside on our back porch, or just spend time talking while we take a walk!! Jesus is the end and beginning of each week and we need Him to be our daily as well! Marriage only works when we put Him first, and rest!!

Scripture

Monday: Genesis 8:22 says, "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease." We will always have summer and I am so thankful for that and look forward to it each year!!

Tuesday: Isaiah 35:7 says, "And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water:" Be careful of the mirage of memories and work on being in the here and now with your spouse to create new memories.

Wednesday: Matthew 11:28 says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Sometimes we get caught up in being busy and need to stop and rest! I love this scripture as a reminder from God to do just that!

Thursday: Ecclesiastes 5:19 says, "Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God." After all of the labor, God gives us this as a gift to enjoy!

Friday: James 1:17 says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Dreamy days of summer are ours to enjoy! God made them perfect!!

Saturday: Luke 12:27-28 says, "Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!" Slowing down is trusting the Lord!! We have to slow down and enjoy life!!

Sunday: Jeremiah 8:20 says, " The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved." IF we are not saved summer means nothing, it is so important whatever season you are in to remember to keep Jesus first.
