Journey Together

Long Journey

In prayer this morning I felt the Lord speak to me of a “Long Journey.” The definition of journey in the dictionary.com is: traveling from one place to another, usually taking a really long time, also meaning passage or progress from one stage to another. It’s a process, a moving from one place to another and it not always going to be easy. How often do we go on a journey? When I think of a journey, I think of some person like Moses, the children of Israel, and many others in the bible. We read the highlights, but they had years before they got where God wanted them to be.

Walking Together

On your journey in marriage and this life, are you walking alone, or with your spouse? Do you and your spouse hold hands and move in the same direction? If you are just starting out you may be going two completely different directions: work, schedules, how you have been doing life for awhile now. Maybe you started out in the same direction, and now years later you are no where close to each other on this long journey. Walking together is so important!! We gain so much by walking together! Don’t worry if you aren’t right now, it may take some time to get on the same path!

Changes

I can’t tell you how many new seasons of changes Brent and I have had! It feels like every time we get on a schedule, it changes, but we are always on the same path! This didn’t happen overnight!! It took time, readjusting, and changing our plans. We had to learn to move around obstacles and bends in the road. There are hills we have had to trod up and valleys we have had to trudge through to get down. The mountaintops were glorious, but if you have ever been at the top of a mountain you know they are a lot smaller than the valleys and the air is thin so you just stay for a short time! The view is beautiful but you can’t stay there long, you get a vision and you go back down where you live!

Vision

This year is 2020 and well it’s probably not what any of us had hoped or planned for. But Gods vision is always perfect! He sees the end from the beginning! Pray for God to open your eyes to all He is doing, and don’t get discouraged. God’s plan for us is so far above where we could ever even imagine the best being for ourselves. When we get into prayer on this path of life God can lead us together to where we need to be! That mountain peak is for a glimpse of the direction we are heading, it’s not for stepping off. Our vision is limited, but we catch a peek of what God is doing in prayer, then hold hands and help each other back down the mountain toward our destination!

Limitations

We have so many physical limitations in this world, this life, and even in our marriages. We are limited by the natural elements, but not spiritually! God is limitless!! He is far above us in all things, He has no boundaries. But He did put limitations on us. Only through prayer, fasting, and a time alone with Him can we start to see the limits of this earthly realm melt away. We still have limitations but we know, and can ask, the Limitless God of the universe! Prayer is our way to ask God to take the limits off. Boundaries are good because they keep us safe, like a guard rail on a path up or down a mountain, and we need them. We can trust the plan of God when all we can see is what limits us.

Highlights

We see everyones highlight reel, their best, their great moments, but we don’t always see their bad days, pitfalls, and failures. That’s ok as long as we know they have them. This time in life it’s so important to see people are real and have valleys, trials, and bad days. Loving on one another and reaching out. Facebook and other social media platforms usually reveal only the best of us. Can I tell you marriage isn’t a bed of roses. We have our bad days, our arguments, our hurts, but we also have so many joyful moments, peace, and intimacy we don’t share online as well. Life is real, it hurts, it’s not easy, it can be down right painful at times. But together on this journey we can see and experience unimaginable joy when we are on the same path!

Peace

Jesus said He would leave peace with us, He would actually give His peace to us!! What a powerful promise. Today you may feel like you are on a journey, a long, hard, disappointing journey. Be encouraged!! It doesn’t have to be that way! This long journey can have peace that surpasses understanding. You won’t be able to understand it! Remember Jesus has overcome the world! We don’t have to live this life in fear, or failure, we can live in peace! Jesus wants to give you this peace today, in your marriage, life, and on this journey!! If you need help finding a church or want to do a bible study please reach out to us! God is ready and willing to bring peace to a troubled situation today! Your marriage is best when Jesus is leading you both together on this journey!

Scriptures

Monday: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” We are better together!

Tuesday: Amos 3:3 says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” One of my favorite scriptures! We may not agree on everything, but we learn to submit to one another as we are on this journey together!

Wednesday: Song of Solomon 2:1 says, “I [am] the rose of Sharon, [and] the lily of the valleys.” Changes will come but we can see even in the valley the Lord is a sweet smelling lily that blesses us!

Thursday: Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he.” The word of God is the glimpse into our future!! Read it together and see how God will direct you!

Friday: Matthew 19:26 says, “But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” We serve a limitless God!! No matter what your situation looks like today know with Jesus anything is possible!

Saturday: 1 Peter 1:8 says, “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:” When we look to Jesus on our path together you will have joy!

Sunday: John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Pray peace over your marriage today!! He’s ready to give it!!
