Preventative Care

Sickness

Have you ever been really sick?  Or had an illness that you had to have treatment for?  It can be very costly, time consuming, and exhausting to help recover from a illness.  What if you had treated your body right to start with?  Eating healthy, exercising, resting, and keeping your stress down, would be the way to do it!

Busy

Sometimes we are so busy we don’t do any of the above preventative care.  We eat out, because it’s quick and easy, lay around, but don’t really get good rest and are so stressed because our plate is overflowing, so to speak.  We have too much going on. So, we run everywhere and treat our bodies like they will last forever.

Marriage

How does this apply to my marriage?  I’m glad you asked!  We sometimes get so busy in our lives, that we treat our marriage like an after thought.  Not communicating, spending time together, making plans, dreaming, being intimate, or anything else that helps us become one.  We have to learn to be preventative!

To Do List

We have so many things we have to do, we have bills to pay, work, children, church, events, extended family functions, vacation, obligations, hobbies, the list is endless.  We need a break, but who has the time!  And our number one priority outside of our relationship with God is suffering. We need to put our priorities in order!

Preventative

When we look at the definition of preventative, we find it is a way to prevent illness and disease by programs and measures that screen, check, and diagnose a problem early.  We need this in our marriages.  A way to keep an eye on any area that could be a major problem later on.  What are ways you can apply this to your marriage?

Overnight

Your marriage doesn’t get built or destroyed overnight.  It is a process of neglect, ignoring, not spending time on, and basically pushing the issues under the rug.  Some people will do anything to avoid conflict.  That is not good when it comes to marriage.  Why?  Because we need conflict, and we need to address small issues before they become a disease.  It takes time to heal a marriage, so why not use preventative measures?

Answer

Gods Word is always the answer.  Jesus is always the solution.  Reading, praying, fasting, becoming consistent in our marriages is truly a good rule of thumb.  But we also need to have, and gain knowledge on how to have a good marriage!  So we invest daily in finding ways, mentors, and groups to help us along!  Go to classes at your church, Young Marrieds Group, Marriage Retreat, read books, find a couple that has a godly, lasting, good marriage and ask sit at their table! The list goes on and on!! Find ways to invest in your marriage!

Prayer

Our prayer for you is that you prevent any disease that could come into your marriage: adultery, discontent, separate lives, children before your marriage, God last, anything that the enemy could do to creep into your home and cause chaos. Anything you do that could put your marriage at risk. Pray today for a renewal in your heart and home for your marriage. For God to open your eyes!

Scriptures

Monday: 3 John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” Praying for a healthy marriage today!

Tuesday: Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” Our bodies won’t last forever, but our soul will, so just like we need to keep our spirit healthy, we need to keep our marriages healthy!

Wednesday: Colossians 3:18-19 says, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.” When you follow the word, you will see that our focus then becomes the order of God. This is preventative care!

Thursday: 1 Corinthians 11:3 says, “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.” Order is so important to our marriages! Pray for God’s order to be consistently in your home.

Friday: Ephesians 5:22-27 says, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Preventive care!! Learn this scripture and apply it daily!

Saturday: Psalm 147:3 says, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” Don’t let things go in your marriage, talk about them, pray, and forgive daily!

Sunday: James 5:14-15 says, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” Apply this to your marriage and ask for prayer, get to the altar, ask for forgiveness from the Lord and your spouse, and see God heal your marriage!
