Serving

Together

My heart is to serve, and do so with my husband! He is my everything, my love, my best friend, my supporter, encourager, and strength when I am overwhelmed! I am also these things to him, his help meet, his love, best friend, his biggest fan, encourager, and strength when he is weak. None of this happens without God first in our lives and also doing everything with excellence.

Excellence

We have pushed ourselves and helped each other over the years to be our best! We work every year on getting better, on having more discipline, and doing it all with excellence. Our Pastor and First Lady have created an atmosphere at our church of excellence! We see the importance of planning, creating, and implementing excellence! Our best, together, with giving everything we have to God and to other with a heart that serves.

Heart Issues

We all grow up in different places, different homes, and different ideas of how to serve. It is shaped by our lives before we start serving and will continue to be the same if we never work on ourselves and the way we do things. It’s a heart issue. We constantly grow, or we die, by what we do. A heart that loves to serve and give is one that works on the how, not just the why. If you don’t love to serve or do it from a place of obligation, you may just be doing whats expected instead of from a place of service.

Obligation

Some grow up in the church and know how to serve, they even may get a lot done, but if their heart isn’t in it, it may be done with resentment, with a half hearted approach, or even from a place of just getting things done. A check list. Having a check list is great and I love having one!! If all you are doing is checking off a list, you have missed the point. Serving is about loving and meeting a need. Serving with your spouse is a great way to make sure you help each other to keep serving from a place of love.

Needs

Needs are real, and if all you do is try and reach people with meeting the need, you have missed the point as well. They are real and we need to make sure in serving we are doing just that! That may be the kindest most loving thing you could do. Our Pastor always says that if you can fill the children’s bellies, they can hear about how much Jesus loves them. In your marriage, there is no greater way than to serve together to meet needs, whether that be at church or in someones home.

Marriage

Your marriage will thrive and survive many trials if you can learn to find a way to serve together. Marriage is a blessing from God to show the world His love through the bride and the bridegroom. Jesus and the church!! Portrayed by you and your spouse, and is a sign to the world of His great love. So when you serve together, you are showing them a completeness of what He will have for them one day!

The Master

Spending time with the Master of creation is the most important thing you can do!!! Jesus has to be at the center of it all! Serving and heart to do it comes from Him! Our heart attitudes, our intents, and all you do serving together comes from spending time with the Master! When you get married, it’s best to start from a place of relationship with Jesus, the Master of our lives! Seek Him, spend time with Him, and serve Him together!!

Prayer

Our prayer for you this week is to find a place to serve together, with excellence, making sure you are serving from a heart after God and for His people and not just out of obligation. Find a need in your local church and ask to help, and seek the Master to direct your steps. God will help you to find your place to serve Him!

Scripture

Monday: Genesis 2:18 says, “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” Serving together is a reflection of Gods plan from the beginning.

Tuesday: Colossians 3:23 says, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” When you are serving to please the Lord and do it with all your heart, it will be done with excellence.

Wednesday: Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” God know the intents of our heart and can help us to have right motives when we pray and trust him.

Thursday: Galatians 6:10 says, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Let us do good to all men especially the household of faith, but don’t get caught up in obligation, do it with a tender heart full of compassion.

Friday: Matthew 25:35-36 says, “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.” We have to meet the needs of the people to serve them. As you and your spouse go out remember to fill the natural need as well as the spiritual.

Saturday: Ephesians 5:22 says, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.” We are the representation of Jesus and His bride the church.

Sunday: Matthew 23:10 says, “Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.” Jesus is our Master and as we spend time in prayer together as a married couple we will learn how to serve as we gain His heart!
