Something About Serving Together

Time Together

There is something about serving together, it is time together. I know that my husband and I have had seasons in life, where we are running from one thing to the next. We may see each other, but it can be a real struggle to have time together. So we have made a choice to serve together. When we do, even when time is tight we are building a firm foundation in our marriage. We may not see all that is being done, but we can trust as we put Jesus first and His kingdom, we are on the Solid Rock!

Binds Us

Serving God together in this life is the foundation of who we are. There is an order, God, Husband, Wife, Children, Ministry, Etc. We keep this order, and in doing so we keep our marriage. It binds us together! It is the glue that holds together our marriage. When you read a book, you think about what it says as a whole, but you don’t think of the process it took to make it. There is the idea, the words on pages, the cover, the binding, and the glue.

Our Book

Our book is written by God, He orders our steps, leads and guides us as we surrender to His will. The words are a culmination of what we do on this journey, what we choose to do each day. The cover is the protection we receive as we keep our covenant with God. Binding is what holds it all together, and if you have all the pages, an idea, words and no binding you have a mess. Our binding is serving the Lord together, and the glue is love, forgiveness, and order.

Serving

When my husband and I serve together, we are creating intimacy in our marriage. We keep order, by regular prayer, fasting, and reading the word. Add in devotions, bible studies, and serving together in our church. We are making a life together, by serving together. Serving is more than filling a position, its taking a position of humility. We are looking to God to do something greater than ourselves. We are not just looking at what we want, our goals, our dreams, but we are looking for a life that exalts Jesus.

Others

When you take your marriage to a new level and decide to serve together, you are now focused on others. If you are still focused on you, you are NOT serving. Serving is others centered. You listen to others, love them, take time with them, see a need and fill it. You truly want to love them the way Jesus does. When you constantly are thinking of yourselves, you cannot see others the way Jesus does. He was moved with compassion, and met the need.

Compassion

Compassion in serving is looking to Jesus, seeing His people, and having a heart to help them, see them healed and whole. I know our prayer each day is let me love like you Jesus. We are not good enough in ourselves to do this, we are naturally selfish, its our nature. But when we have compassion, we can minister to His people, and see people grow, be grounded in His word, and miracles happen!

My Life Is Not My Own

All that we have, all that we do, all that we are, is His. We were bought with a price, and our lives are centered on Him. There is something so special, rewarding, and intimate, about serving together. We challenge you today as a couple to find a way to serve God together. Watch what the Lord does in all the areas you have been praying about. Jesus is the God of Miracles, what an exciting, prosperous, rewarding life we get to live! When you give Him all of you, your marriage, and life, you will get more back than you can ever dream!

Prayer

Our prayer for you today is to surrender all you think you want, all you desire, and any part of your marriage you are trying to control. We have all done it, when things are going wrong, we will try and fix it our way. Praying today for a new commitment to serving together and allowing God free reign in your marriage. To tweak, to move things around, to bind you together with the glue of serving Him in your marriage as one!

Scriptures

Monday: Isaiah 28:16 says, “Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” We are serving together and building our lives on a sure foundation!! Pray today for unity in serving.

Tuesday: Ephesians 4:3 says, “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Praying today to be one in the Spirit, bound to together in peace!

Wednesday: Phillipians 2:2 says, “Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, [being] of one accord, of one mind.” When we serve together we have an intimacy most only dream of! Pray today to love, forgive, and for order in your marriage, to serve together.

Thursday: Matthew 16:25-26 says, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Praying today your ideas, dreams, and goals line up with Gods plan for your marriage and His kingdom.

Friday: Romans 12:10 says, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;” Pray you and your spouse can give all you have to others, for the sake of the kingdom!

Saturday: Matthew 14:14 says, “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.” Compassion for others makes miracles a reality when serving the Lord!

Sunday: 1 Corinthians 6:20 says, “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” When this scripture becomes a foundation in our marriage, we will truly move into a place of blessing serving God together. Miracles will happen all around!
