Trying Something New

Something New

I’m not sure how long you have been married, maybe a month, a year, 10 years, or 50? What I do know is that if we don’t engage in new activities together, our relationship can become stale and boring. I’m not talking about work, church, family, but something more intimate. The closeness you have is so important. If you are just doing the normal things in life and have no time for one on one time you might be in trouble.

One On One

Time is a precious commodity! We only have so much time in a day, week, month, and year. Time can also get away from us. There are things that steal our time, our phones, devices, social media, hobbies, work, etc. When was the last time you and your spouse spent quality time together? Had a real conversation, no phones, no distractions, no kids? Have you tried something new in awhile? These are good questions to ask yourself weekly!

Fun

Fun in a marriage is something that involves laughing, excitement, thrills, flirting, and true communication! Is fun apart of your marriage? Trying something new is a great way to include fun into your relationship!! Brent and I just started working on the outside of our home!! We did some landscaping in the front, planted some roses, plants, wildflowers, and put in a new beautiful weeping cherry blossom tree!! In the back we are working on updating some cushions, and adding some accents to our porch on of our favorite places to sit! We also planted a garden!! I am so in love with our something new!!

Planting

We had some starts for our garden and got them planted. First we made a raised garden bed, filled it with dirt, and waited for the right temperatures! After we spent a day planting them, we watered them really well, just like the roses, plants, and tree. The funny thing is I go out each new day and expect to see something happening. Isn’t this a lot like our relationships? We put in a tiny bit of effort, and expect an instant change? Trying something new together builds up our relationships, draws us close together, and yields a harvest!

Time

What we planted, a seed, or even a start of a plant, takes time to get rooted, and start to grow! It takes sun, rain, and love! You can’t go six months in marriage not talking, or spending time together, try something new, and then wait another 6 months to try again, and then expect to have a great relationship! It takes time, love, patience, watering, sunshine, and consistency. Trying something new, that takes some effort, time, and consistency is a great way to yield that fruit you have been desiring to see in your marriage.

Distractions

I will definitely say that during this time of staying home we have found several things to do together! One of them is working on a puzzle!! It is so much fun, and it’s been something we can do together at night! With the start of a new job, the hustle and bustle of a new schedule, we have decided instead of sitting down to watch a movie, or zoning out on our phones, that we will spend time working on a puzzle together and listen to sermons! We are having so much fun, and its still relaxing, and we are becoming more intimate by doing it together!!

Intimacy

You know what?!! During this time of staying home, and adjusting to all that’s going on we also have spent more time with the Lord! We had a schedule before, but God changed our schedule and it has been a blessing!! Becoming more intimate with Jesus and in turn become more intimate with each other!! We love it! It didn’t start with us, it started with HIM!!! We turned our attention to Him and as we did, our desires changed and our appetites changed too! No longer are we just wanting to sit and look at our phone to relax and feel time slip away. We made time for each other, and started trying something new!! We also grew in the Lord!!

Prayer

I hope this has encouraged you today!! We are praying for you this week that you grow closer to the Lord in your prayer, worship, bible reading, and devotions! In turn your marriage will see a new intimacy it has never seen before! Praying for you to be patient with the results and try some new things together!! That your intimacy with your spouse flourishes!!

Scriptures

Monday: Genesis 2:18 says, “And the LORD God said, [It is] not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” God created woman so man would not be alone. The enemy would love to keep a wedge between your marriage so that you aren’t fulfilling Gods perfect will!

Tuesday: Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” Time has a purpose and there are seasons, but don’t waist time you have been given with your spouse.

Wednesday: Ecclesiastes 5:18 says, “Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.” We can enjoy the fruit of our labour!! God wants us to have enjoyment in all that He blesses us with!

Thursday: John 12:24 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” Isn’t it interesting that we first must die to our ideas and expectations, then we can start to see fruit in our marriage. Dying to self, seeking God, and then trusting the process is so imperative!

Friday: Psalm 1:3 says, “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Our roots have to go deep before we can bear fruit in any relationship and that includes marriage! The word is our promise!!

Saturday: Matthew 13:6 says, “And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.” Distractions will keep you from growing roots in your marriage! They are like a scorching sun that will wither your marriage away! Do some pruning in this season so you can have a harvest next!

Sunday: Isaiah 43:19 says, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Isn’t just like God to say, “I will do a new thing!!” He is so good to make a way in our wilderness and a river in our desert! Seek Him, spend time with Him, and see your life flourish!
