Work Like A Boss: Serve Like My Savior

Work Like A Boss: Serve Like My Savior

I was driving down Highway I-70 heading east a couple of weeks ago and saw a truck with a sign that said, “work like a boss.” I thought it was catchy! Then I thought about servanthood. Then came the thought, “Work like a Boss: Serve like My Savior.” I have owned my own cleaning business for 6 years officially, and cleaned for several years off and on before that. I like being my own boss, as I can set my schedule, pick who I want to work for, and pick up or slow down as needed. The business side of it, finances, books, invoices, etc., are not my favorite. This is something I have had to work on. My husband has been a big help. But when you’re the boss you have to make sure it is taken care of, done right, and pay attention to detail.

Owning Your Business

I love leaving a place I have cleaned, and knowing when my client gets home, they will have a clean, prayed through, peaceful home to relax in. They have one less thing to worry about in their lives that day. It makes me feel accomplished to know I helped someone. Cleaning on my own is harder work, but less worry. When you have cleaning help, cleaning, is a wonderful feeling! But you also have to train, check, and recheck the work done. As your name is on the company not theirs. I have been blessed to have quite a few great helpers! But it’s not their business, so I have had to train them to pay attention to detail. To look around and see if they notice anything that needs hit with the duster, or cleaning spray. Owning your business is just that, owning all you do.

Constant Learning

I am constantly learning, pushing myself, and working on how I do things. To be more efficient with my time while still doing quality work. I was told years ago by many a woman who owned her own cleaning business, never charge by the hour or square footage, but rather to charge by the home. Every home is different and have different levels of what needs done. Some have animals, lots of children, etc., there are lots of different factors. But I always want to do the best job while making the most of my time, and knowing my value. I always want to learn, grow, and improve in my business.

Most Importantly

Most importantly, I have learned in my walk with the Lord, to have a servants heart. I am not perfect, I pray everyday to do my best, but I always want to clean with serving in mind. All I do, I do it as unto the Lord. This post isn’t about cleaning. I am using it as an example about being a boss. You may do something completely different, maybe you are a boss, or a mom, or a wife. But whatever you are, it takes ownership! Owning what you do, working hard, knowing you are giving your all! As if, getting paid for a successful business, depended on what you do each day! But if you aren’t serving, you are really just selling something.

Serving Like My Savior

I don’t want to just sell something, I have sold many things in my time! Selling is in my genes, I could probably sell ice cubes to eskimos! Again, I don’t want to sell anything, I want to serve like my Savior. My life is not my own, my life is wrapped up in Jesus! He is our example and teaches us He didn’t come to be served, but to serve. I love helping people, I want my life to count, to know God has used me for His glory. If I am constantly focused on me, I loose this. Servanthood, is in an essence, others focused.

Marriage

In my marriage, I want to serve my husband, to love him, to see what his needs are, and fill those needs. From getting his lunch ready, to preparing the coffee, cleaning the house, taking care of things at home. To loving him, spending time with him, finding out what he likes to do for fun, and doing that. I can sometimes be focused on me, and want to do what I want. He is so sweet to want to make me happy too. But, I know I am most fulfilled when I am making him smile, laugh, or be at peace in our home. I love when he loves what i made for dinner! This is something I strive for. To serve my husband with joy!

If It’s To Be, It’s Up To Me

To accomplish this, I have to do some work… like a boss. I have to get up, be focused, be intentional, plan, stay on task, and create ways to make our life work. This is not always easy with the ebb and flow of our lives. Our schedule, has always changed, we are very busy, and we serve outside our homes too! We love it all!! But we still have to figure out what works for us, be flexible, and adjust. Then we have to pray to have a heart like Jesus, to do all these things with a servants heart.

Servants Heart

God has been speaking to me about this recently! Why do I do what I do? What are my motives? The intent of my heart? Sometimes we can just be busy, and do. We have to have our hearts in all we do, especially dealing with people. They can tell if we care, if we love them, or if we are just putting on a show for position, or wanting something in return. I want my heart to be saying, “Jesus, you love them, help me love them like you!” I want to serve like my Savior, to give of myself, expecting nothing in return. Whether it be my marriage, my children, or at church. I want to love people. Period. Giving of my time, resources, and love. To see peoples lives changed for the better. For them to know Jesus loves them and they can have a blessed life and marriage.

Action

Today I choose to look for ways to serve, my husband, my family, my church, my community. We all are busy, but if we look closely, there are things and people all around us, that need what we have. Give: we can give a helping hand, we can buy some groceries, we can give a hug, pray with someone in need right then, we can ask our husband what they need today. We can make a difference! Just by stopping, listening, thoughtfully I might add(putting our phones down), and then act. I am preaching to myself! Lord help us to serve like you do! When people feel loved, they want to do better. They feel they matter, and keep going. We can make a difference in the lives of our loved ones today!

Scriptures

Monday: Colossians 3:23 says, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” I love and quote this scripture to myself all the time! I want to give my best to the Lord, then I am giving my best to all I do. Pray for a heart to serve today!

Tuesday: Romans 12:11 says, “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;” Pray today God helps you to work like a boss, knowing this is what God has given you to do today, whatever that may be, with a servants heart.

Wednesday: Mark 10:45 says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” NKJV. Praying today as you meditate on this scripture that you go to do each task, or act with the thought, I am here to serve, not be served.

Thursday: 1 John 3:18 says, My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” This scripture sums up to act upon what we say we believe. To do all we do in love with action! Pray for a heart to serve with not just words, but deeds also.

Friday: John 15:13 says, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” When we have the right heart and spirit, we will lay down our lives for others. Praying for a right spirit within today.

Saturday: 1 John 3:16 says, “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” Praying for your marriage today, that we are willing to lay down our lives and ways for our spouse.

Sunday: Galatians 5:13 says, “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” Pray your love and service today would be without manipulation, not to get what you want, but unselfishly, loving and serving like Jesus. Thank you Jesus!

Prayer

Our prayer today for you and your spouse, is for loving each other, by serving! To work hard like a boss would, and do it with the heart of service that our Savior Jesus gives. Think of others before ourselves. To be kind, listen, take time to truly serve. Thank you Jesus for your great example to us how to love and serve one another. When we do, our spouses, children and people in our lives feel special and loved. They want to be around someone who truly cares about them, and in turn we are showing them Jesus! They see Him lived out through our service. If we give without expecting. The world doesn’t work this way, so serve today like Jesus would!
