You’re In A Battle

Contentment

Did you know you’re in a battle for your marriage?  There are enemies out to decimate your marriage.  Some enemies come in the form of discontentment.  When we walk around looking for things or people to satisfy us we are going to be in trouble.  We are looking in the wrong places for contentment.  True contentment comes from God.  We can never fulfill the desires of our flesh with the things of this world, or even relationships.  We can only be truly fulfilled with desires that are Godly.

Desire

Some desire fast cars, wealth, and power.  Others desire worship, and to be obeyed in a relationship that is unhealthy.  Flesh desires pleasure, revenge, and many other things!  Desire is not bad in itself, it is something God put in us to come to know and long for Him and our spouse.  We are in a battle with our own desires, so we need to look to the Lord for godly desires.

War

We are in a war for our souls, our marriage, children and family.  Personally we also are at war with our own flesh, and in a battle that takes all we have if we are not careful.  The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life!  It can take from us everything we care about and love.  So, we have to learn to fight Gods way so we can win!

Perversion And Violence

Today the news is filled with human trafficking, rape, molestation, affairs, murder, and the like.  Most think this is far from any of us.  We would never do this, but all of those acts started with sin, a thought not taken captive, a smile to someone other than our spouse, being in the wrong place, a text, pic sent, etc.  Some, who may have been normal people, now are forever remembered in the news because sin brings forth death.  You can not control sin, you can only go where it leads.

Lust

Lusts take us away from God’s plan and purpose for our lives.  They draw us away from the blessings we could have.  Lust is our flesh wanting to be pleased, it’s what we spend our money on, what we look at, what we entertain, what we listen to.  It displaces us from God’s best.  Pornography, flirting, anger not dealt with, etc, are the things that may seem harmless at first, but turn into a beast that cannot be controlled.  Its a battle many have tried to fight and lost.  There is hope, but only in God.

Marriage

Our marriage is the most important relationship in our lives next to our relationship with the Lord.  We have made a covenant to keep all of these things under subjection to Gods law.  To love, cherish, honor, until we leave this earth.  When we put other things in front of these two we fail.  We have to put on Gods armor and fight a battle that we are in whether we like it or not.  We must recognize it, and walk in it.

Battle

The battle is the Lords, we have to learn to trust and obey him in order to have peace and a good marriage.  But we also have to learn to war and do our part as a soldier in His army.  We have to seek Gods face, pray, fast, speak and read the word, to fight the good fight of faith!  We do all of this to protect and keep our marriage!  There are so many little foxes that spoil the vine if we are not sober and diligent in our daily lives!

Prayer

Our prayer for you is to be sober, awake, and present in the battle. Pray, fast, read, and get to the altar as much as possible together. To put on the armor of God and to stand. To do all you can in the battle, and then trust God with the rest!

Scriptures

Monday: 1 Timothy 6:6 says, “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” Pray against the battle of your mind that deals with discontentment.

Tuesday: 1 Timothy 6:7-10 says, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” Pray your desires be pure, that you would not desire the things of this world or relationships over God and your spouse.

Wednesday: James 4:1-7 says, “From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Pray to war against the right things!

Thursday: James 1:14-15 says, “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Pray God help you in your marriage to be aware of temptation and to flee!

Friday: 1 John 2:16 says, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” When we look to the world to satisfy us we are not in Gods will. Pray today for God to redirect you to His word, and to please Him.

Saturday: Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Marriage is first blessed by delighting thyself in the Lord, then your desires will be given to you as you fight for your marriage through prayer.

Sunday: 2 Chronicles 20:15 says, “Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” When you have done all you can remember the battle is the Lords.
