Romantic Love

Eros Love

Well Valentines Day is upon us once again!! As we prepare to send cards, get gifts together, receive roses, candy, and other items that say, “I love you!” Let’s look at what the word Eros means. Eros is greek for romantic or passionate love! My husband and I like the idea of focusing on our marriage everyday, instead of just once a year, but we will take advantage of this Holiday to do something special and have one of our date nights!

Date Nights

If you are anything like us, we have to plan a date night. We are busy with work, church, children, activities, the list goes on and on… Date nights are important though. It’s an investment in our marriage, it’s saying to each other, I value you and our relationship. We have to make time for our spouse to get away, unplug, and discuss hopes and dreams in order to have a meaningful relationship.

Be Prepared

Many of times, we plan a date night, a time to be romantic, to get away, to unwind, and just have fun, and by the time we get there, we are so tired that we really miss the point. This may mean you are in a busy season, or you need to cut some things out. So take some time to get a good nights sleep before, have time (if possible) to freshen up, and get your mind set to spend time with your love!

Before we got married, most of us could spend hours on the phone, together, making time to see each other, drive a distance, and look into each others eyes dreaming of the day we could finally be married. One definition of passion is a strong, powerful emotion, another is the object of such desire or love as defined in the free dictionary. Passion is an emotion, we are born with passions, and we can learn to control those and also to stir them up. Whatever we are passionate about we will pursue.

What are you in pursuit of regarding your marriage? Are you pursuing your spouse, to love, protect, to know, and to engage with them romantically? Our Pastor said the pursuit begins after you get married. We need to pursue our romantic relationships with our spouse before we pursue our careers, or teaching our children, or even being a servant in the body of Christ. If you want to be blessed you have to have order. And to have order you have to have intimacy with God and then your spouse.

Intimacy does not just happen behind closed doors in the sacred place of your home, but it definitely includes it. We have to learn to be intimate on many levels. It is described as a close, warm relationship, deeply personal, private, and secret. The word of God says the marriage bed is undefiled. But it also means having a deep or unusual, extensive knowledge of, as described in the free dictionary. Learning to know your spouse in an intimate way, with love, understanding, and communication, then leads to the most intimate way we can know and become one with our spouse.

If you are looking for good results in your marriage, take time to get to know your spouse. Be romantic every month! Be prepared, don’t just throw something together, find out what makes your spouse tic. A great book is ‘The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman. Be passionate by stirring up those emotions that you may have lost. Pursue your love with all your heart! Look for ways to become intimate with them, to help them feel loved and safe. You will start to see good results in your marriage as the one you adore starts to bloom.

Our prayer is for your marriage to become all God desires it to be!! You can have a wonderful, exciting, passionate, and intimate happily ever married marriage!
